Online Library Catalog Facility
We are the first and only one of its kinds in implementing a Computerised Online Library System, among the thousands of libraries affiliated to Kerala State Library Council. The availability of documents in the library can be checked remotely through our Online Public Access Catalogue link at the SNV library website.

Members are provided with user ID and password for logging in to view the status of documents issued against their name. Members can also interact with the librarian through email for reserving a document, renewals, and for answering reference queries. In practice, it saves a lot of time of the user and also improves user satisfaction to a great extent.

The library website and online library catalogue are being updated regularly. It is to be noted that we are surviving with limited resources, but strives hard to excel with noteworthy features like ‘Online Library Management System.

Taluk Reference Library
In the year 2002, the library was designated as Taluk Reference Library in recognition of the availability and accessibility of useful and relevant reading materials. The Taluk Reference Library Collection is very well utilised by students from primary level to higher education levels and also by researchers, doctors and scientists.

Planning Commission (Govt. of India) Affiliation
It is one of the landmarks, as the SNV library became a registered Non Governmental Organisation under Planning Commission of India. The library found a place in the concurrent list of National Informatics Centre, New Delhi. We are looking for an opportunity to get approval of our project proposals in future.

Library Energy & Development Participatory Action Research Centre (LEAD – PART)
Started as a Non-Voluntary Organisation under the library for developing community based self help groups. The project was initially funded by Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Government of Kerala a decade ago. The activities have a long cherished history to uplift the living standards of people in the locality through microfinance. The commendable services rendered by this project enabled us to receive a status of Non-Government Organisation (NGO) under Planning Commission, Government of India.

Through this project, the library intervened in various social activities in the locality. The project is also aimed at redefining role of library in the development of community and to make the library and agent of development. In 1990, Women self help group was organised in various areas of Kalliyoor, Pallichal and Venganoor Panchayats and proper trainings were given on various activities with the guidance of Centre for Development Studies. There were about 30 such groups are functioning under the Library. These groups were subsequently clubbed with the ‘Kudumbasree’ units

Reading competitions
We promote in the conduct of reading competitions for school going children regularly. Many students represented the library at Panchayat, Taluk and District level competitions.

Children’s wing (Balavedi)

This wing is working in liaison with more than five educational institutions in the locality. It is an active section in the library of about 300 student members. Most of them are hailing from economically weaker sections of the society. This wing is self administered by elected representatives within the student members as president and secretary.

They are convening at every weekend and making use of the resources in the library, especially children’s literature, computers, Internet facilities and audio-visual materials. Their talents have been nurtured and are provided with a forum to perform their creativity. Creative writing competitions including essay writing, short story and novel writing are conducted periodically under the Wing. Lectures by eminent personalities are also conducted in different subjects on regular basis. Meagre grants are being utilised in running this wing satisfactorily.

The Children’s Wing members are benefitted with the services rendered by Kalliyoor Primary Health Centre. The Health Services personnel are entrusted with delivering vaccines and vitamin tablets to the needy children periodically.
Special vacation classes are also provided to the Children’s wing members. The classes were comprehensive by covering various topics of current interest. Essay writing competitions, seminars, reading competitions, recitations are conducted to nurture the talents of the members.

Women’s Wing (Vanitha vedi)
A special division with 120 members, including women’s representatives from Grama Panchayat. Meetings are regularly conducted in areas of women’s empowerment related issues. The division is under full administrative control of the executive committee of the library.

Arts Wing
Under the guidance of retired government servants, special classes in reading, recitation, storytelling, general awareness, and essay writing are arranged to inculcate the creativity among children from nearby schools.

Sub-Centre of Primary Health Centre
SNV library is one of the Sub-Centres of the one Primary Health Centre of Kalliyoor Grama Panchayat. It has been functioning as a full-fledged division in the library for many years. It conducts health education camps, free distribution of medicines, regular health check-up camps as routine activities. The Centre is managed by a core group of experts including doctors, health inspectors, and public health nurses. Occasional special medical camps are organised for library members, especially those in children’s wing members. The Centre ensures services of two nurses on daily basis.

Career Development Centre
This Centre has a history of decades of fruitful service to job aspirants in the locality. Now the Centre is a full-fledged one with resource persons and information resources. As of now, the Centre generated a plethora of human workforce through competitive exams conducted by various bodies including Kerala Public Service Commission, Union Public Service Commission, Banking Service Recruitment Board, Staff Selection Commission, Armed forces etc. SNV library is the backbone and motivation to these educationally elite, unemployed youngsters in the locality to attain career heights.

This division is functioning on full-time basis with conduct of regular special classes by external experts, quiz competitions, spoken English and personality development classes etc.

Model Non-Formal Education Centre
This Centre was started about ten year ago with assistance of Kerala State Library Council. Currently it is functioning effectively with full administrative control of the Library committee. Special classes are organising every month in relevant subject fields to equip the otherwise weakened community to the mainstream.

Information Centre
Information Centre at SNV library is a depository of publications from Kerala Government departments. With these resources, Centre manages to deliver quality information to the community to meet their specific information need. The Centre also designate a panel of experts comprises of Tahsildar, Block Development Officers, Doctors, Educational experts for providing guidance to lay public. The computer and communication facilities in the library are the backbone in the conduct of services under the Information Centre. In brief, it evolved to be the one stop information Centre to users.

Village Knowledge Development Centre
To equip people to face challenges in the present era, this Centre has plans to deliver information resources upon requests. This is supposed to be the only one Centre under Kerala State Library Council to deliver services of its kind.

Continuing Education Centre
This is a Centre under Local Self Government with an objective for maintaining Literacy within the community.

Neighbourhood Education Centre
Sponsored by Kerala State Library Council for the first time in Kerala in the conduct of special classes to students based on their curriculum. The beneficiaries are selected based on the poor academic track records or educational backwardness, coupled with their economic status. Students from neighbouring schools are covered in the scheme. Textbooks for this purpose are kept in the library for reference.

Vocation Training and Production Centre
As a registered Centre for vocational training, it offers training to the society for income generation. Training in tailoring and garment making is provided through a unit with 7 stitching machines.

Arts & Sports Club
A unit attached with the library is a registered club. Members are active in participating major events and also represented SNV library in many occasions.

Audit and Inspection
Library accounts are thoroughly verified at different levels viz. Taluk, District, Taluk Reference and Accountant Generals (Govt. of India) audits. All the audit reports commented transparency and trustworthiness in the conduct of library activities. No reports cited any fault in the system.
